Reason for formation of Swarajya Party

C. R. Das and Motilal Nehru held a meeting at the residence of Maharaja of Tokari at Gaya on the same day and formed a new party. It was called Congress Khilafat Swarajya Party. "Congress Khilafat" was dropped a little later and it became Swarajya Party. It issued its manifesto, which was subscribed by over a hundred persons. Prominent amongst them were C. R. Das, Motilal Nehru, Hakim Ajmal Khan, V. J. Patel, Sherwani, Kelkar, M. V. Abhyankar, B. S. Moonje, R. R. Sahani, A. Rangaswamy Iyengar, M. R. Jayakar and Satyamurti. The manifesto of the new party was as follows:

"Whereas we are convinced that several important items in the programme of work adopted by the Gaya Session of the Indian National Congress are not conductive to the speedy attainment of Swaraj and we are further of the opinion that several other important items have been rejected, we do hereby form and constitute ourselves into a party with in the Congress.  The party will be called the Congress Khilafat Swaraj Party. It accepts the creed of the Congress, viz., the attainment of Swaraj by all peaceful and legitimate means and also the principle of non-violent non-cooperation." C. R. Das was appointed the President of the party and Motilal Nehru, B. N. Sasmal, Vithalbhai Patel, Choudhary Khaliq-uz-Zaman as the Secretaries. The party decided to have its own organization and programme of work.

સી.આર. દાસ અને મોતીલાલ નેહરુએ એ જ દિવસે ગયા ખાતે ટોકરીના મહારાજાના નિવાસસ્થાને બેઠક યોજી અને એક નવો પક્ષ બનાવ્યો. તેનું નામ કોંગ્રેસ ખિલાફત સ્વરાજ્ય પાર્ટી હતું. "કોંગ્રેસ ખિલાફત" થોડા સમય પછી પડતી મૂકવામાં આવી અને તે સ્વરાજ્ય પાર્ટી બની. તેણે તેનો ઢંઢેરો જારી કર્યો, જે સો કરતાં વધુ વ્યક્તિઓએ ફાળો આપ્યો હતો. તેમાંના અગ્રણીઓ સી.આર. દાસ, મોતીલાલ નેહરુ, હકીમ અજમલ ખાન, વી.જે. પટેલ, શેરવાની, કેલકર, એમ.વી. અભ્યંકર, બી.એસ. મૂંજે, આર.આર. સહાની, એ. રંગાસ્વામી આયંગર, એમ.આર. જયકર અને સત્યમૂર્તિ હતા. નવા પક્ષનો ઢંઢેરો નીચે મુજબ હતો.

"જ્યારે અમને ખાતરી છે કે ભારતીય રાષ્ટ્રીય કોંગ્રેસના ગયા અધિવેશન દ્વારા અપનાવવામાં આવેલા કાર્યના કાર્યક્રમમાં કેટલીક મહત્વપૂર્ણ બાબતો સ્વરાજની ઝડપી પ્રાપ્તિ માટે અસરકારક નથી અને અમારો અભિપ્રાય છે કે અન્ય કેટલીક મહત્વપૂર્ણ બાબતોને નકારી કાઢવામાં આવી છે, આથી કોંગ્રેસ સાથેની પાર્ટીની અમે રચના કરીએ છીએ. પાર્ટીને કૉંગ્રેસ ખિલાફત સ્વરાજ પાર્ટી કહેવામાં આવશે. તે કૉંગ્રેસના સંપ્રદાયને સ્વીકારે છે, જેમ કે, તમામ શાંતિપૂર્ણ અને કાયદેસર માધ્યમોથી સ્વરાજની પ્રાપ્તિ અને સિદ્ધાંતને પણ. અહિંસક અસહકારની." સી.આર. દાસને પાર્ટીના પ્રમુખ અને મોતીલાલ નેહરુ, બી.એન. સાસમલ, વિઠ્ઠલભાઈ પટેલ, ચૌધરી ખલીક-ઉઝ-ઝમાનને સચિવ તરીકે નિયુક્ત કરવામાં આવ્યા હતા. પાર્ટીએ પોતાનું સંગઠન અને કાર્યનો કાર્યક્રમ નક્કી કર્યો.
